The influence of Artificial Intelligence in the field of medicine is increasing every year. Ophthalmology is one of the most data-driven specialties in medicine. Our GOAL today is to improve the processes of diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic pathologies by Artificial Intelligence methods and algorithms tomorrow. The summit will include not only individual cases of using the Artificial Intelligence for solving problems in ophthalmology, but also theoretical issues related to the safety and implementation of such solutions.

Ophthalmology

Technological progress has led to the emergence of various devices that generate more than 50 petabytes of data annually. Processing such large volumes of data undoubtedly requires the use of new theoretical approaches, methods, and technologies capable of augmenting human intelligence.

In ophthalmology, artificial intelligence is one of the tools that helps improve the efficiency of the treatment process through more accurate diagnostics, the assessment of new disease biomarkers, automation of decision-making processes, and support in other aspects of a physician’s daily work.

Moreover, one of the most important factors in the implementation of artificial intelligence is the decentralization of expert knowledge across broader, geographically distributed areas.

It is likely that 70 years ago, no one could have imagined that such a complex property of living beings as learning could become accessible to a non-living structure made of metal. However, the year 1956, which marked the emergence of the concept of “artificial intelligence,” undoubtedly challenged that certainty and at the same time became the starting point for the development of a new era — Industry 4.0.

Artificial intelligence offers a number of advantages over traditional analytics, primarily due to the increasing accuracy of machine learning models as they interact with data.

AI is set to usher in a new era in patient care by automating and accelerating decision-making processes.

Safety

The use of information technologies in healthcare provides an opportunity to improve the quality of patient care, significantly speed up the work of medical personnel, and reduce costs for patients.

At the same time, the era of digital transformation is marked by increasing complexity, expanding scale, and a rise in coordinated cyberattacks. According to a report by Kaspersky Lab, more than 150,000 phishing attacks using medical themes were recorded between June and December 2021.

Thus, ensuring information security for AI-based solutions is critically important for reducing the risks associated with such threats.

Digital Transformation Strategy and Regulatory Challenges

Artificial intelligence in general, and machine learning methods in particular, can ease not only the routine work of medical professionals but also serve as tools for managing administrative processes in healthcare institutions. These include planning, maintaining electronic medical records, accounting, payroll management, and organizing payment for medical services.

For all healthcare delivery processes automated with the help of artificial intelligence, an important aspect is legal regulation and the determination of the legal consequences of the actions and decisions made by intelligent machines.

Arts and Humanities through the Lens of AI

AIO 2023 offers a unique opportunity for academics and early-career researchers to share their work and ideas on the application of artificial intelligence technologies in the fields of art and the humanities.

We invite participants of this section to explore how AI is transforming culture, literature, art, and education. We welcome presentations on a wide range of topics — from AI-generated artworks to the analysis of its impact on sociocultural processes.

Together, we can uncover new horizons in the synergy between technology and the humanities.
